social networking

almost everyone now has facebook. whether its facebook, myspace, friendster, etc. it all serves the same purpose. meet new people, meet old friends. you can chat there, play games, check out bands, and so many more! there's so much you can do on those sites.

in a way, these social networking sites are a great way for people who dont and do meet up often to communicate. it's practically free! no money spent unlike smses.

though it may be all good, it does have some cons. some people can get addicted to these stuff. regardless whether it's facebook or twitter. some just have to keep updating their status. and some can't even function well if they dont check their pages. scary.

so boys and gals out there. please dont get addicted to them. though it may be fun to see someone with this kinda addiction. im kidding.....

Give and take Situation

How vital is communication here in Malaysia? What do we expect form Malaysia? In my recent blogs I’ve highlighted communication as a global tool. What role does it play for us as a multi religious community? Well most importantly will be to notice the different languages. Therefore being cautious while conversing is important. The best part about Malaysia is that we’re so comfortable with the many races that communicating has become no issue, but rather the communication between leaders here…….well that’s another issue!!! Basically everything we do involves communication. It’s a major factor in just about everything. This shows that it is very vital to us. What’s most important to us is delivery of that communication. There have been issues where even our political leaders had miscommunication with foreign leaders. It’s rather embarrassing when we read about these things happening. However for us citizens, we find a way to make do with the diversity and the culture. We respect and honour one another. It’s a broad give and take situation

Cellphone

I’ve mention in my earlier posting few weeks earlier regarding cell phones being a major part of history and evolution as well. I’d like to dwell further on cell phone as a important tool in communication. I picked cell phones cause it’s the most essential and most used tool. We notice nowadays that cell phones are being used by everyone, the young the old the middle aged and not to mention the teens. Its become a necessity for us all in this century as a tool of communication. Its boundaries grow wider and become limit less as time goes on. Communication using a cell phone has expanded widely. Initially used for simple calling, now it has video calling via 3G, video mms, “sms”, voice sms…..and it keeps going. All this, done for the good of communication and for the better of the future. The world becomes a little smaller with each breakthrough as connection between countries become easier and more flexible. How effective communication has been to us throughout the years.

Diversity of communication

Since the topic of communication I’ve been having an open mind to explore all around and try to relate it to the topic given. Communication is global. Its also a tool that makes the world go round. Imagine a world without communication…..only one word comes to mind…..chaos!! we would have the coordination and relations between countries. Our whole system that governs countries rely on communication. On the other hand what we do have is language, the different language used as a mode of communication. The world has been filled with different languages. Some even extinct and some in code, but never the less beautiful art that we practice. This issue became aware to me while I was in the “mamak” with my boyfriend. It was actually he who had pointed out the different languages that was being used and echoing around the restaurant. Its was amazing to share that with him and I had to share it in the blog. There is amazing diversity right here in Malaysia. We’re blessed to share such diversity through communication. We really should try to notice as most of us teenagers spend a lot of our time at the “mamak”.

Tarzan

Communication as a whole is mainly related to interaction between persons. However my last visit to the zoo got me thinking about a whole different scenario. I was actually walking past the bear cage, as I looked in I noticed the female bear all lone looking like the weight of the world was on her shoulder….that reminded me of my uncle who’s like that all the time. Then I started wondering, if only they could communicate with us and share their view on life. Wouldn’t that be something. It doesn’t exist as we know till today. We can however train animals to respond to us but not converse. Which brought me to the idea of “Tarzan”….what a good movie that was., a man running around the jungle making friends with the wildlife. Amazing thought to share with the world. If we could communicate with animals…..what would they tells us???

Culture...

Noticing that Malaysia is surrounding with different cultures. Learning to respect every of it is very important. There're lots of types of communication in a multiculture country.

Somehow, sometimes our language, sing-language and more is a lot different of other culture. Even that for other country, the way we communicate is also different. Some words or gastures that we're showing has different meaning to another culture.

Communicating with other culture is a way to built relationship and to get to know more about that particular culture. for me, I would like to know more about other culture so that I'll not get culture shock if I travel to different countries.

To know more about other culture we should fine out more about them and most of all communicating with them is also important.

~Ageism~

After the previous human communication lecture, I found out that there is a kind of discrimination that most of the adults have it, which is ageism. Most of the adults will dicriminate people who are younger than them.

People who are older always ignore what the younger one say. Cause they think they are older and if they can't think about something good how could a younger one can. I rember when I was small, I was taught not to talk or give any opinion duing the adults are talking. It is actaully a bad idea, cause sometimes even a kids also can give a very good ideas. =)

Adults!!!! Please learn to listen to the kids..........=)

By Nigel Ng

~Listen~

Do you ever try to listen to what people next to you are talking about when you are in a train or in any public places? No?

I always do that.
Everytime when i'm in the public, I will listen to what people around me are talking about. Sometimes I will feel bad to do that, cause it make me feel like spying on other people privacy. But I still like to do it cause it is quite fun and usefull you know. I actually can learn alot form listening to them. I lcan learn lots of stuff that I dont know and sometimes I can get "NEWS" from listening to them. Listening to how other people talks also allow me to learn to communicates with other people.

If you never do that, why dont you try it one day. You will actually feel funny when you listen to what other people say. There will be people who gossip about other people, people who complain about their family and boss. There are also people who will talk about the latest news and there will also people who about their relationships.
Next time remember ya, listen to what people around you are talking about. =)

= Self-denigration =

Every human actually do have a little egoistic attitude in them. Do you agree? hmmm.. it's ok if one doesn't really agree in what I'm saying, again, it's my point of view. No offence yea.^.^

Why do I say that? That is because, everytime during communication or certain work is successfully done, majority of people would actually feel so nice that they've achieved that high. They might sometimes think of crediting themselves and do promote themselves. Of course, we cannot say that everyone does that.

What's the point of crediting yourself? Well, to be honest, sometimes I did that too.was ashame to say this.. haha.. I feel that it might feel nice and proud to credit yourself sometimes but do we ever think of actually people around us (working together with us), do we think before to give them this credit? We should actually! they're apart of us, without them, we might not be able to achieve in whatever we wanna do.

To conclude this, we shall promote ones accomplishment. It might either motivate them to target themselves higher! Again, always remember that self-denigration is however good to no where if we do continue doing it. We will actually get people annoyted.

Ghost Hunters

i really enjoy watchin ghost hunters and a haunting. ever heard of communication with ghosts? it really is interesting. i don't mean the kind where they start summoning ghost to pop up and all but i mean like how the ghost hunters does it.

1st, they try to talk to it like "is there anyone here with us? if there is, will you make a sound, etc.."
n if they dont respond, they start to provoke it with stuff like "dude, you a chicken? can't even make any noises for us? im glad you died, etc.." usually when they start provoking, the ghosts start replying.. awesome huh?

sometimes, they use a recorder. most of the times, when the paranormal try to communicate, you can't hear it. though some may be loud and you can catch it on camera. there was one episode which the ghost started saying "you don't belong here". ehehe. but sometimes in the recorder, you can hear lots of amazing stuff.. some voice are scary as hell, some are soft, there are laughs, one was even a sound of a person gaspin for air, etc. really really cool.

there's also a device they use which is called k2 meter. it's a device that can "sense" the paranormal and when it does, the lights will start blinking. ghost hunters would ask stuff like "are you a female? and if yes, plz step in front of this device." most of the time, the ghosts would actually respond. one of the most creepy questions asked was "are you lonely?" and it replied yes.

they also use digital thermometers to see the rapid drop or incresement in the atmosphere. as they explore the place, some of them bring along a thermal camera. to me, that's one of the best equipment because it can see the differences in certain spots such as a colder n and a hotter spot. so sometimes, an image of a human will suddenly come on the screen though no one was there.
i guess communication doesn't just stop at human interacting with human huh? :)

anyone interested in watching ghost hunters, it's on wednesday, 10pm, channel 711.

ask for directions? no way.

ah. the classic topic of men asking for direction. a big NO NO. must be some kind of unwritten rule in men.

well, certain women too don't ask for directions. take me and my friends for example.

we were supposed to go to subang. take the ktm dere, reach dere, a fren will pick us up. simple. but NOOOO. we went straight to a train without checkin out the directions properly(most likely cause the train was already dere, ran in and smiled) after a few stations, BAM! we realized we were heading to Seremban instead. we kinda flipped out and a lady sitting nearby was kind enough to point out the obvious. yes, we know we were headed the wrong direction. thanks for your help anyway.

got out, waited for a train to return to kl sentral. and got into the right train. this time, i ASKED for directions.. it would have made life much easier today if we just asked someone if we were heading to the right place.

yes yes. asking for directions can save time, energy and money. so guys and gals out there, ASK FOR DIRECTIONS! don't be shy. put aside your pride or ego or whatever and just ask. people out there... or some people out there are willing to help. so let's all do ourselves a favor and start asking for directions. communication goes a looong way.

hari raya

well, i've been busy visting some people's house for raya and i must say, i love the atmosphere in open houses. everyone is happy, there's somehow limitless amount of food, lotsa cookies, and lotsa people.

though there were many races there, communication was still easy. everyone spoke in english. *evil laughs. thank god for that!* the older people made jokes bout their teenage children, the younger children sat in front of the tv watchin the little mermaid, a group of family was singing some raya songs. the atmosphere like i said, absolutely enjoyable.

if they were to start speaking in a language i didnt know, i would probably seclude myself from the crowd. or perhaps, many others too.

to sum it up, language does play an important role in communication. the first step to communication? understanding what they're saying. :)

cool.. you can change the colour..

inconsiderate

well, first of all, sorry but my last week's blog will be posted now. internet problems.

ok. so last week, (still in the puasa month), i took the bus to go home. it was after 5pm thus a lot of people were on board. i must say, i was really hungry at that time and i totally forgot that the muslims were fasting. i ate 2 subway cookies on the bus while everyone stared at me.

this is what happened:

me: *munchin away on my cookie*
friend: ey, don't eat here la.
me: why? im very hungry
friend: SEE! (she actually tried to show me the people on the bus glaring at me)
me: (stupidly sees the "NO EATING" sign) so?
*in my defense.. she tries to point to the people using her head. somehow she seems to be pointing at the sign instead of the people.*

and that's it. to make it worse, i drank water in front of 'em.

after we reached the destination, my friend asked me again why i ate on the bus. THEN, i found out that they were fasting. i completly forgot! oopsie.

it occured to me then that sometimes, we may be disrespectful to others without knowing it. it could be a lack of knowledge in ones culture or erm.. being forgetful. SORRY!!

since we live in a multi racial country, we should always respect others and be alert at all times.. unlike me. again, sorry everyone on the bus!

Important? Not important?

Language is one of the most important things in communication. Without a language, it is hard for you to send your message a cross to another person. Imagine that you have to use body language to send every ideas that you need to send across to someone. It is hard right? So that is why a language is important.

We Malaysian actually learn quite lots kind of language compare to the others country. We learn three kinds of language and most of the other countries learn only one kind of language. But now a days it is getting more and more countries that encourage people to learn more than one kind of languages.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrv7D9bMz_4

In the video, the boy actually somewhat criticizing his dad. But his dad don’t seems to understand it? Why? Because his dad don't understand the language that his son are using.

After watching the video, what do you think? Is it necessary to learn more than one language? Yes? No? I don’t know, it is up to you all………..=)

~Primary Communication~

Facial expression is the primary communication. The mood of a person is always shown on the face. There are seven universally recognized shown through facial expression. The seven universally recognize facial expression are fear, happiness, anger, disgust, contemp, surprise and sadness.

Kids are the one who always easily shown the moods on their face. They will not hide what they feel. They will just show what they feel on their face. In contrast, adults always hide their feeling. They dont always show what they feel, especially sadness. This is because most of them think showing their feelings to the othets means showing their weakness to the others and this let them feel unsafe.

Observing others facial expression is important during a conversation. Because, by observing a person facial expression you can actually tells what the person feel about the conversation, and you will know wheter the person are paying attention to what you said.

Hmm.......our lecture Mr.Murali said that he will easily show what he fell on his face, I wonder wheter that is true or not. I think I need to pay more attention to his facial expression to find it out wheter it is true or not. Hehehehe........=)

- measure of yourself -

I was always wondering how good am I going to be in my future? My life, I do always looked down on myself saying that I might not succeed in big things. Sometimes even some small matter I wouldn't get it done so do big "stuff"?

sighh..

But, I do know some ways to increase my self-esteem!!
Well, I've at least learnt something..

= Attack self-destructive beliefs. Meaning?
Sometimes, words or comments that people gave me when you think that you're not that bad, you can choose not to take it, it might not be true.
= Seek out nourishing people. Meaning?
I should actually seek out to who are positive in thinking or who have a positive energy in them!!
= Remind yourself of your successes and secure affirmation.
I shall feel good about myself and keep telling myself to believe that I'm good!

**All of the following are those which I must change in myself because of lacking of those points, my self-esteem has gone so low. Thank God that I've noticed it earlier! haha.. #sing with praise#

Lastly, I know that I am not that bad, I shall really not listen to people's discouragement! I know I can do it.. hee..

~compare~

Lots of people do like to compare themselves with others. That goes for me and my life! haha..

Last week, during leadership camp, was the day that I'm comparing myself which is named "social comparison", learnt from Human Communication class. I was comparing physical attributes between myself and my friends.

For some of the games, we actually need to have more strength and a bit of height to get yourself completing all tasks easier. From this moment, I do realised that I'm actually so short and "powerless"! People were saying that I'm so thin, some even admire it but I'm just 38kg!!! My god.. I feel that I'm "too" underweight and its not good at all. They also keep asking how do I maintain myself like that, the fact is I do want to be fat but I don't know how because no matter how much I eat I'll not get fat also.

This is why I do always compare my weight with others.

And also! I do re-call that even my brother is also very "good" in comparing with others. He'll be comparing his toys with his friends. For example, he'll always ask my parents why his friend can own the limited edition stuff but my brother can't? Agian, my parents will be mentioning "DO NOT COMPARE", apreciate what you have now.

Communication at a whole

communication is understood as a means to converse. The truth is its the oldest habit and the earliest development of evolution. Just as things like clothing. Started with nothing on humans back, to rags, then to formal wear and then jeans and tank tops and mini's. Its an evolution we seldom talk about. which is why i choose to talk about "communication at a whole". Caveman communicated through writting on caves, later it developed to sign language, then talking using the mouth. then developed language. then came letter through birds, then letter through man(now called posting), thens comes telegraph and the list goes on. the most famous breakthrough is of course Alexander Graham Bell's telephone. This change brought about all the major inventions we use today...from cellphones to 3G to the internet..all inspired by this mans invention. i believe you never know where you heading untill you know where you're from. Teens today don't realise the value of the things they use and sacrifices it took to get to reach this century. We all carry a little bit of evolution in our pockets and in our handbags. That is definately something special........

leadership camp

well, i went 4 d HMC leadership camp on d 11th.. when i first got there, i was pretty much complaining on how awful it was.. as time passed by though, i kinda liked it. being with all the trees, it's so peaceful.. minus d bugs though.

the stars there was beautiful! it illuminated the sky with a beautiful twinkle.

one of d difficulties i had was, well, communicating. the thing was, most of them spoke chinese. i do not speak chinese, i repeat, i do NOT know how 2 speak chinese! throughout the whole camp, they continued speakin chinese. so i just hung around the english speakin people.

i guess now i trully understand how language can stop people from speaking to one another.

but one of the good thing about it all was that they do speak to me.. instead of ignoring me throughout the whole camp. also, i shall be entirely grateful to the people who have helped me get through the rope challenge or whatever you call it.

they guided me on how to pass certain parts. and wel, even if they don't speak, they actions were kind of a form of communicating, cause they were still helpin me get through the course.. actions as in a part where i couldn't get down and he helped me get down

also, when in the cave, we were all discussing..and debating on which was the right direction. but through it all, we got through it with just minor scratches.. no serious injuries.

the important things i've learnt throughout this whole camp?
a lot

it's hard for me to write it down here. but i would recommend everyone to go.

eventhough you feel like you've not learnt anything, but at the end of the day. u actually do. you might not have realized it yet. i'll share this with you though

do learn to trust your friends more.

wel,, that's all for now. super tired.
HALLELUJAH! i survived the camp and finish this blog!!

Tool of communication

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zYiQ-sOHyM8&feature=related

The video above is a way of communication that made an impact on me. I was first introduced to this while attending a church service. A few months back, while attending an Easter Mass in my church, i had experienced a different kind communication towards God. Besides the usual church choir leading us in praise,we, the congregation were joined in by a group of dumb and deaf people. They were joining us in praise through sign language. It was definitely a sight to behold.
These gifted people were 'singing' their hearts out, with full of joy and enthusiasm. It just goes to prove that communication can be done in many ways and it doesn't necessarily have to involve your vocal cords!
Learning sign language is a rewarding experience that leads to greater communication skills. its a method thats been passed down through the years. Just how people say learning an extra language is an advantage, but i say learning sign language is a gift. Its so normal for people to convers by language and words. Its a social "norm" to convers with the tongue and we take everything else for granted. Picture the use of sign language where all senses are being enhanced. The eyes become so special and touch becomes everything. I say its special to witness such beauty at a time when it seems so dead. The gift of of them in the society brings forth untold beauty that can only be experienced. I'm very thankfull that i have experienced it.

*f.a.i.t.h*

it takes me decades to think of what should i talk about :p

Bet you guys will be wondering why am I here leaving a title named "faith". Faith had given me a really challenge and meaningful word for me, and this word "faith", I'll bring it everywhere for my whole life!

Why so? Throughout this weekend, Help U.C had organised a Leadership Camp. Thats really awesome! Every task was so challenging and fun!!!

We've been saperate into 3 groups and our group is named "faith". Our target is to believe that no matter how hard is the challenges going to be we'll still believe that we'll be able to succeed! With the cooperation of our team, we'll be able to do our best there and to challenge ourselves that we can do it !!

Throughout these 3 days, our group cooperate and care about each others well. By this, I've thought of "small group communication". because of this, our group can do well. We've actually set our target and named our group "faith" that is because we want everyone to at least get something meaningful back home and will continue to apply it in out daily life.

We did communicate with each ohters well about our tasks and also did organised well when we're about to aim our target. We've gone thru so many scenes which forever I'll not forget.

These are the list of what we've been thru >>
  • one of our member got injured, we're actually worrying for her so much. We've cared about her, gaved her all our loves to let her know that although she would not have the ability to follow us by completing all challenges, but in our heart, we know that she can do it! We also cared about her to let her know that we're still in one team and there's no way for us to neglect her.
  • we've solved many problems by everyone contributing ideas together. We do not mind sharing our knowledge with others, in fact, we loved it! We even contributed to other group too!
  • some of our members do have the experience in some of our activities, they do not mind to lead us using their "faith" believing that they can lead!
  • I'm super afraid of heights and when we're about to do the pinnacle high ropes, I almost cry half way when I'm hanging around, my whole body is shaking and I do felt like giving up but I know I cant, because my group is cheering for me and supporting me, I would not aford to disappoint them.
Lastly, no matter what it takes, although a group might be small, but there's somehow conflicts will occur during generating ideas and communication. Today, "FAITH" has succeed and had completed all the tasks smoothly and all these are refering to the word "Group Communication".

its me again!

~Encode~Decode~

Many of us think that communication between two people is an easy job, but in fact it is not an easy job. An effective communication is about conveying your message to the other people clearly and unambiguously. It also about they way how you recieve and interpret the message that other are sending to you.

The process of communication go like these, the messenger encode the message he try to send. After encoding the message it is send to the recipient. Than the recipient will decode the message that he receive.

By successfully sending your message across to the recipient do not mean you convey your message or idea successfully. Because different people will interpret your message differently. This "road block" have actually break down your communication. It may causes misunderstanding and than conflict will arise.

To avoid conflict, make sure you send your message clearly and interpret the message you receive correctly. A communication is only successful when both the sender and the receiver understand the same information as a result of the communication.

First Impressions

Okay, first impression is acutually a very important communicatin skills in our daily life. This is because physical appearance is an important element in people attraction to starngers, whatever things that a people see in their first sight will actually determine what they think about you. For example, when you first saw a man with full of piercing and tatto on his body what will you think about him? Surely the first thing that come into your mind is "Oh, he is must be a bad guy" or "Is he a gangster?" but in fact or maybe he is the person who can really help you in what you need. Now because of this first impressions you have miss this chance to help yourself.

Besides, first impressions also is a very important during a job interview section.Okay,if you are a boss of a company and you need to hire a worker, there are two guy who came for the interview and both of them having the same level of education. One came with a tidy hair, clean face and with a formal outfits. The another guy came with a meesy hair, face unshaved and a simple T-shirt and jeans.Who do you think you will give the job opportunity to? Surely the one with tidy hair and clothes right? Why? Because the first impression that the second guy have gave you a bad impact on him. By the way he look you will think that he is a lazy person and you dont want to hire a lazy person for your company.

So now do you think first impressions is important? If yes, than try to improve your self presentation skill. Why? cause self presentation skills mean the way how you present yourself to other people. :)

Oh...at last i posted something.....phew.... :3

True Colour..

Every human I do believe has their own character. What impact me most is the good and bad attitude that is in humans. I was wondering is everyone do carry themselves outside same as how do they carry themselves at home?? Honeslty, I DO have this kind of attitude which is i do not show my TRUE COLOUR which can be called a "FAKE" image of me when I'm outside.

I do noticed that I'm actually hiding some bad attitudes inside me. I'm trying my very best to be good which I do believe everyone will do that when they face the so called "the stranger world". Why is this so? Why does Self Presentation Skills-Identity Management must be in everyone?

Yes. Self Presentation Skills is important!! People will actually judge us from their very first impresion towards us. Don't you think that? That is why I've acted as well as I can everytime when I'm meeting with some new friends. haha..

True Colour has reminded me on the very first day I entered college. Guess what, it is the first time that me, myself is alone without knowing anyone when the first day I entered college. Fear is in me! Usually I have a bad attitude, which is I don't talk to people provided if they talk to me first!! That might be reflecting that I'm a person who is having egoistic in me.. but in actuality, I was afraid to communicate! Presentation to me is like a torture last time!

I left myself no choice but to try to bring out faith believeing that I can! and so, this is the time where true colour will not be revealed instead of practicing my Self Presentation Skills. Good to say that it works! I've manage to get to know some friends.

This is all that I need to say, a GREAT lesson to me which is to change my bad attitudes and get started to change myself so that i would not need to "fake" myself again..

Lyrics

you can't see me... no light

one of the most life changing songs i've ever heard was welcome to the black parade by my chemical romance. MCR for short.

to me, lyrics is how musicians communicate with their fans and people from around the world. some people think music is "just noise" whereas, i bet to differ. a good song is where the lyrics and the tune is AWESOME. when i first heard the song welcome to the black parade, i was blown away. the tune itself was dramatic, intense and really theatrical. the lyrics, was AMAZING. they were sending their message out through their music, and in my opinion, it's a lot louder and better then a speech.

music does save people's lives. a good band or singer, is the kind where they can save lives through their work. which is why i say lyrics are important.

take this song for example.

WELCOME TO THE BLACK PARADE-MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE

*when i was a young boy
my father took me into the city
to see a marching band
he said son when you grow up
would you be the savior of the broken
the beaten and the damned?*
he said will you defeat them
your demons
and all the non-believers
the plans that they have made?

because one day
i'll ieave you a phanthom
to lead you in the summer
to join the black parade

repeat *

sometimes i get the feeling
she's watchin over me
and other times i feel like i should go

and through it all
the rise and fall
the bodies on the streets
and when your gone
we want you all to know-

-chorus
we'll carry on
we'll carry on
and though you're dead and gone believe me
your memory will carry on
we'll carry on

and in my heart i can't explain it
the anthem won't explain it

a world that send you reeling
from decimated dreams
your misery and hate will kill us all

so paint it black and take it back
let's shout it loud and clear
defiant to the end we hear the call

to carry on
-repeat chorus
and though you're broken and defeated
your weary widow marches

on and on we carry through the fears
disappointed faces of your peers
take a look at me
'cause i could not care at all

do or die
you'll never make me
because the world
will never take my heart
go and try
you'll never break me
we want it all
we want to play this part

i wont explain or say im sorry
im unashamed im gonna show my scar
give a cheer for all the broken
listen here
BECAUSE IT'S WHO WE ARE

im just a man
im not a hero
just a boy who had to sing this song
im just a man
im not a hero
I DON'T CARE

-repeat chorus 2x
and though your broken and defeated
your weary widow marches on
WE'LL CARRY ON

the songs in the whole album, The Black Parade tells a tale of a cancer patient who's gone through life, and death. and well, the journey after death. instead of goin to heaven or hell, the patient goes to the place where he has the fondest memory of-a marching band he once went to with his father.

in the video, you see the patient dying and being welcomed into the parade. he goes through it all and then Gerard Way-the vocalist gives him a medal. the medal is a symbol of the patient completing his life.

to me, this song tells me, and most likely a dozen more kids to NOT be afraid to be who you are. express yourself, stand up for yourself, live your life, and learn to accept death and failures.

to sum it up, lyrics really does make up the song. lyrics is where musicians send their message out. lyrics are interesting because you can get to decipher the hidden meanings in it. just like poetry.
